Generating Passion through Losing Money

Jan 02, 2018

We’d been searching for hours when the time came for me to leave. I was shattered. Being only my first week on the job I had worked so hard to get, I blew it. My superiors assured me everything was fine and that everyone misplaces money sometimes. And since I was new that was my one Get-Out-of-Jail Free, card. But none of that mattered to me. I had been applying endlessly for this job and I couldn’t hack it just one week. The lady who turned me away so many times before was actually right, “I’m just not the right person for the job.” Shoulders slumped low, I left the building and returned to class uncertain of how I would perform when I came back for my evening shift.

Deeply discouraged, I passively endured my next three lectures. What was I going to do? How was I going to let this story be written about me? As it has so many times before, I caught a glimpse of the supernatural breath flowing through my body and became increasingly aware this was not my story. I was not about to let the lady from my past win this round. I knew I had more to offer.

I returned to work that afternoon determined. I powerfully exited my truck slinging the glass doors open as I entered the building with daring confidence. I was absolutely resolved to find that money. I mightily soared across the marble floor to punch in my code to get through the teller door…but wait, why are they looking at me? They’re smiling. Something’s off.

“What’s up guys?” I asked not sure if I should be smiling or be concerned.

“We found your money!”

And just like that, the battle was over. I had come to conquer but it seemed the conquering had already taken place without me. Although I didn’t find my own error that day I learned two valuable lessons which have served me across all time.

Number one, I set the motion for something great to take place in my life. From that day on I never let one penny pass through my hands in error that I did not first spend adequate time searching for. Sometimes, it was never found. But every effort was made, every time. And to this day I carry that dedication to all of my projects.

There’s an old saying, many quote from the Bible, about the woman who lost a coin. The story teller proposes that if anyone had lost a drachma, which in that context was about a day’s wage, would they not sweep the entire house clean in search for it? I chose in my early career to care about the one. The least of all things. Since then, I’ve been entrusted with so very much more but I always think back to the penny. To the money that was found when I set my intentions on the thing I wanted most in that moment.

I chose in my early career to care about the one. The least of all things.

The second lesson has transcended all personal encounters in my life, and I dare say it transcends all personal encounters with everyone’s life. When you generate energy you attract things and people to you in ways you never could imagine. Think back to that day when I misplaced the money. Who found it? Not me. I merely decided that I was going to give everything I had to finding that money when I woke up that morning. I went inside and searched until I could literally search no more and walked away. My coworkers had their own tasks to complete for the day but were inspired by my actions and took it upon themselves to work for me for free. They didn’t benefit from that, not directly. When we walk in our own power it draws people toward us. It inspires people to give more than expected. It creates higher levels of connection and community. Are you ready for that in your life, my friend?

Do yourself a favor and decide that this year will be that year. This year will be the year you gave that task or that project your very best. When you awake to your full power you’ll be amazed at the things you can accomplish, the people you will attract, and the life you create. This is your time! Now get out there and live your day!
